Official release of "The beautiful and the sublime"

Every year in January one of the most outstanding musical events in Latin America is celebrated: the Cartagena Music Festival. For its fourteenth edition, from 4 to 12 January 2020, the festival will present the transition from classicism to early romanticism in Vienna. All this under a theme he has titled "The beautiful and the sublime".

Beauty is the category par excellence to interpret classicism, it is something that must inspire pleasant and pleasant aesthetic sensations, for it must be born from the perfection of forms, their harmony, their regularity, their balance. For its part, the sublime is one of the aesthetic categories associated with the interpretation of the works of the first romantic movements. The sublime is that feeling between consternation and astonishment determined by the absolutely infinite and immeasurable.

The programming of the Festival will focus on the work of Franz Schubert, the Viennese composer will be the key to the journey between classical and romantic style. The repertoire includes five of his nine symphonies, chamber works and two cycles of lieder (songs), all exhibited by internationally renowned artists known for their specialized interpretation, as is the case of the Camerata Royal Concertgebouw, resident orchestra of this edition.

From another point of view, the Festival will also offer multiple eye-catching experiences; one of them, in correspondence with the relevance traditionally given to Latin American music, will be the Suena Suramérica space, a meeting point for experiences, productions and artists from the music world of the continent. A container of ideas, activities and initiatives where the artistic and creative component will meet the productive, distributive, formative and professional components of music. The programme will also include musical conversations with Giovanni Bietti and Ian Bostridge, exhibitions, master classes, luthier's workshops and numerous activities on musical production.

The release of the fourteenth edition will take place on September 25 at the Teatro Faenza, that night the artist Alvaro Barrios will present the image of the Festival. The National University Conservatory Symphony Orchestra and the acclaimed Italian soprano Gemma Bertagnolli, accompanied on the piano by Giovanni Bietti, will also present the opening concert to the Festival programme.
