Encounter between the classical and traditional harps

On Saturday June 16, the Salvi Foundation will celebrate the fifth concert of the series “Six portraits of musical instruments”, presented by the health and well-being organization, Compensar, in Bogotá.

The concert, titled “Classical harp and traditional harp”, will be an encounter between two different musical legacies, one of European descent and the other of Colombian national folklore and, in particular, the musical roots from the central plains.

This is a special occasion given that two of the artists have been part of the Salvi Foundation’s educational programs in the framework of past editions of the Cartagena International Music Festival.

The first of them is the classical harpist Camilo Crispoca, who was awarded a scholarship to participate in the Festival’s master classes in 2012 and 2017. He has also taken master classes with the world acclaimed harpists Emmanuel Ceysson and Sivan Magen during the Salvi Foundation’s annual Harp Salvi Lecture. His university academic formation has been guided Colombian harpists Bibiana Ordoñez and Martha Bonilla.

On the other hand, the virtuoso Elvis Diaz, an interpreter of Colombian traditional music and particularly the arpa llanera (harp from the plains), will also partake in this upcoming recital. The artist achieved the importante merit of being selected as a Young Talent of the Cartagena International Music Festival in 2011 and since then, he has been invited on several occasions as guest artist, with a recently created group, the Ensamble Agile, with whom he also participated in the 60 Spoleto Festival dei 2Mondi (Spoleto, Italy), in June of 2017.

The repertoire will include works by Marcel Tournier, Carl Philipp Bach, Gabriel Fauré and Colombian traditional composer, Mónica Gallego, as well as works for harp with the rhythms of Colombia’s central plains, written by the interpreter Elvis Díaz himself.

Other guest artists to this recital include harpist María Claudia Alarcón and the ensamble “Agrupación Zumba’o”, featuring talented musicians and dancers of Colombia’s folklore.
