The Cartagena International Music Festival launches the image and the program for its 12th edition "The taste for form. The classical style."

The Cartagena International Music Festival celebrates its 12th edition from the 5th to the 16th of January 2018, with a program dedicated to the "The taste for form. The classical style." The official launch of the image, "The 25+", and the program will be this Wednesday, October 4, 2017, by means of an exposition and a reception in The Nogal Club of Bogota at 7:30 p.m.
Each year the festival is delighted to choose a theme that looks to generate new forms to present to the public one of the most important moments in music history. For 2018, the intention is to provide a general vision of music from the mid 1700s y early 1800s, in a time when three greatest composers, Joseph Haydn, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Ludwig van Beethoven created music of sublime beauty and equilibrium, such style has been defined precisely, as Classical.

As tradition has it, the Festival will once again embark its program with a European perspective and another with a Latin American perspective, with the participation of national and international artists that have been chosen for their specialized interpretation or innovative selective repertoire.

Renowned among the artists is the Münchener Kammerorchester and their director Clemens Schuldt; the pianists Rudolf Buchbinder, Martin Stadtfeld and Aaron Pilsan; the chelloists Mario Brunello and Julia Hagen; the Kölner Akademie and their director Michael Alexander Willens; the Schumann Quartett and the violinist Antje Weithaas.

On behalf of Colombia, the Festival will have the presence, among others, of two piano legends, Blanca Uribe and Teresita Gómez; the young chelloist Santiago Cañón-Valencia; the young philharmonic of Colombia ( a Bolívar Davivienda Foundation project) under the direction of Jamaican Andrew Gourlay; the ensemble Palos and Cuerdas; el Cuarteto Agile; and young singers. From other parts of Latin America, some renowned artists that are participating is the great pianist Nelson Freire and from the Quinteto de Alientos from the city of Mexico.

In addition to continuing with its diverse initiatives of formation by means of the Master Classes program, the recital of Talented Youths, and diverse workshops and maintenance and reparation clinics of musical instruments in Cartagena and other parts of Bolívar, the Festival will also have as a novelty the offer of conferences-concerts and teaching initiatives that look to draw the public to the language of music of this period, by means of conversations like the “ The Classical Style”, “Listening to Beethoven”, and “Mozart and the Opera”, among others.

The festival itselfs gives special attention to the visual arts, especially to the work of artists in Colombian fine arts which has been invited to create the image of every festival edition. For 2018, the invited visual artist is the Cartegenera Ruby Rumié, creator of the project "the 25+", chosen as the image of the festival.

“The 25+” is a project that highlights the memory and the contributions of 25 Cartageneros that by means of their professions and abilities they contributed to the construction of a better city in the twentieth century. A set of stamps with paintings of these chosen personage was the chosen image of the twelfth edition of the Festival, this event is constituted as a gran tribute to the city and its history. Its author, Ruby Rumié, is a Colombian visual artist that has developed projects that have a social content of mixed disciplines like the ethnography and sociology, alluding to situations like territorial inheritance, the vulnerablilty of intangible inheritance and violence towards women. She has merited the 2017 Women Together Award and the 2016 Rockefeller Foundation Scholarship.
As the central activity, the launch this October 4th is developed around the Ruby Rumié exposition, where the “25+” are presented, just like a review of two recent projects of the artist, “Tejiendo Calle” and “Hálito Divino”. The artist also offers to talk October 5th at 10 a.m. at the Nogal Club so as to be able to offer a closer view of her work and artistical life. he 12th edition of the Festival will be held from the 5th to the 14th of January in Cartagena de Indias, Bolívar and the 15th and 16th of January in Barranquilla , Atlántico. The ticket pre-sale for tarjetahabientes of the Davivienda Bank will be September 23th to the 7th of October 2017. Sale is open to the public starting October 7, 2017. The tickets can be claimed at the box office and at the website Primera Fila.
